Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Exodus

Two Key Lessons For Christian Growth

EXODUS 13:17–18 – When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people…

Our Jealous God

EXODUS 34:14 – For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. THEME OF THE DAY. OUR JEALOUS GOD. Mention the word “jealous” in a conversation and I don’t believe we are going to discuss this as a virtue to embrace. And rightly so. In the human experience, jealousy is ugly. Its definitions…

The Sin Of Impatience

EXODUS 32:1-2 – When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So…

It Happens So Quickly

EXODUS 32:7-8 – And the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them.” THEME OF THE DAY. IT HAPPENS SO QUICKLY. It doesn’t take long. In fact, it may happen fast. And it requires no…

Trained For Battle

I remember all those long days of training while in the Navy. We would go to sea and run drill after drill; training activity after training activity, and all to prepare the crew to deploy to places where hostilities might occur. And to arrive at the optimum state of readiness, the training was little by little over an extended period of time. We didn’t just train one day and were good to go. No. It was slow, tedious, and each drill built upon each other.

Right Where He Wants Us

In today’s scripture, is a portion of the exodus of God’s people from their captivity in Egypt. Humanly speaking, they were between a rock and hard place. They stood on the shores of the Red Sea. Not the “reed” sea of a few inches of wade-able bog or marshland. This was the Red Sea as in deep sea, as in very deep sea, as in way over your head sea. Behind them was a huge cloud of dust and it wasn’t a sandstorm.
