Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Loving Jesus More

As summer kicks into high gear and vacations unfold, it’s time for our seasonal book recommendation for your encouragement and growth in the Lord.  This summer’s selection is titled LOVING JESUS MORE.  It is a paperback consisting of 145 pages and includes a nice study guide for personal or group studies.  The author is Phil Ryken. He was the former pastor of the famed 10th Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and currently serves as the eighth president of Wheaton College.

The title alone is the yearning of every true Christian – to love Jesus more, but don’t think this book is about “trying harder” or “doing” more Christian stuff.  Just the opposite.  We learn to love the Lord Jesus more when we focus on and experience more of His love for us.  That is the direction Ryken takes us – to the love of God for us which fuels our love for Him in attitude and action.

I found this book to be an easy read, packed with scriptures, and full of encouragement for us who want to love Jesus more, but seem to be struggling and fumbling to really grasp what that looks like in the day to day trenches of life.  I highly recommend you add this to your list of books to pack for vacation or one to take under a shade tree on a quiet Saturday afternoon.  It will feed your soul and draw you closer to the love of Christ.
