Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

These Things Will Never Happen

PSALM 66:20 – Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!”

THEME OF THE DAY:  THESE THINGS WILL NEVER HAPPEN.  In today’s scripture, the Psalmist is worshipping the Lord and gives two reasons prompting his desire and action to bless Him.  As we grasp them ourselves, we, too, will find ourselves responding like the Psalmist.

First, worship is prompting by the truth God will not reject our prayers.  What a thought!  The Creator will give a listening ear to His children. There are so many examples in scripture, and particularly, the Psalms.  Here are three – The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD accepts my prayer (Psalm 6:9); Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy (Psalm 28:6); and I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy (Psalm 116:1). When we go through difficult times and it seems our prayers go nowhere, met with silence from heaven, don’t listen to the whispers of the evil one saying, “See, God doesn’t love you.  God doesn’t hear your prayers.”  Yes, He does. God’s delays in answering our prayers are not His silent denial or rejection of our prayers.  He cares. He hears. He answers.  Rest in the promises of a listening ear from our Heavenly Father.

The Psalmist further worships and blesses the Lord because He has not removed His steadfast love from Him.  And He won’t remove it from us either.  Let this overwhelm our hearts.  God has loved us with an everlasting and steadfast love, not because we deserve it; we don’t, not because we have earned it; we can’t, and not because we are such worthy objects to be loved; we are not.  God loves us because He loves us.  It is His nature, and not dependent upon the conduct of the object of His love or the value of the object loved.  Now think how amazing this is . . . we are loved with a steadfast love by the Lord that will never be removed.  No wonder the Psalmist blessed God, and we are to follow his example.  But there is still yet another amazing truth to overwhelm our hearts.

What the Psalmist proclaims, that God has not rejected our prayers, or removed His steadfast love from us are things that will never happen.  Never.  He has determined to be our God who hears prayer and placed His steadfast love upon us, and those are constants in our lives, now and forever.  Like the Psalmist, let’s bless the Lord for these heart-warming truths!

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for the grace that always hears my prayers and never takes Your love away.”

QUOTE: “God will never revoke or remove His promises from us. He will remain faithful now and forever.”
