Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Certainty In An Uncertain World

PSALM 102:25-27 – Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.”

The world is a scary place. The world is a dangerous place. The world is a cruel place. The world is a chaotic place. The world is a confused place. The world is a hostile place. The world is an uncertain place. All those descriptions of the world, and more, are the unfolding realities in a world abandoning and shaking its fist at its Creator. Of course, Christians do see all these things in our world but they don’t lead us to lives lived in desperation and hopelessness as the unbeliever. We see beyond the seen to the realities in the unseen world– the God who is active in His world despite what we see. And the way we do view the world this way with confidence and bold faith is revealed in today’s scripture.

Each day, we watch the rapidly changing cultural and continual spiraling down of our country into the abyss of ungodliness. But through the darkness, there is a truth about our God lifting up the downcast heart, calming the racing mind, and putting at rest the anxiety seeking to paralyze us emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It is His unchanging nature. The unknown author of today’s Psalmist proclaims of our God, “You remain. You are the same.” Because of the unchanging nature of God, we may have certainty in an uncertain world. And here are two heart-warming and confidence-building certainties flowing from our God who cannot change.

First, we may live with unflinching and bold faith in God’s unchanging love. God is love and will always remain the God who is love. This truth ensures His constant care for us and His constant protection over us. In a fearful world, we need not fear. God not only reigns over all in this wicked world but over us who are the “apples of His eyes.”

Next, God’s unchanging nature ensures He will remain faithful to all His purposes for us. Yes, the world is changing. Yes, the world is listless, operating in a sea of sinful relativism, but for the child of God, everything is on course. God is fulfilling His purposes in us. Rest there. Stay there. His faithfulness will be the anchor stabilizing our lives when the world’s storms seek to blow us off course.

Certainty in an uncertain world? Yes, we have it. It is found in God’s unchanging nature–our place of safety and strength!

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for Your unchanging nature which provides for me unchanging love and faithfulness.”

QUOTE: “As we watch the world continue to change and not for good, don’t despair. Look more to our unchanging God.”

Because of Him,
