Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Our Unchanging God

HEBREWS 1:10-12 – “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

One of the most comfortable, if not the most comfortable, attributes we find in our God is His unchanging nature leading to His unchanging dealings with us. We cannot relate to this aspect of our God, but we can marvel over this aspect of our God. Just think about how soul-stirring and heart-satisfying the truth of our unchanging God is to the believer. Not to mention, in our always changing emotions and moods, the unchanging nature of God stabilizes our wavering hearts and minds. Now, let us marvel over the applications found in our God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

First, God is unchanging in His love toward us. Do a study in the Psalms on two words describing God’s love for us–steadfast love. As we do, make sure we give ample time for the study. It is going to take a good investment of time. Those two words “steadfast love” appear one-hundred twenty-three times! And because God’s love is steadfast and unchanging, we don’t have to worry about Him “changing His mind ”due to our “ups and downs” in the Christian life.

Also, God is unchanging in His purpose for us. That purpose? Conformity to the image of His Son, the Lord Jesus – For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers (Romans 8:29). And because He is unchanging in His purpose for me, He is unstoppable in fulfilling that purpose – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ(Philippians 1:6).

Finally, the unchanging nature of God’s Person ensures His promises will not fail. They will come to pass. They will be fulfilled. They will be kept. Here is a great assurance of these truths – Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass(Joshua 21:45).

So, when life gets hard, and it will; when doubts come, and they will; when difficulties seem insurmountable, and they will; run and hide under the wings of the God who does not change. He remains forever the same in His steadfast love for us; His covenant commitment to us; and His sure promises given to us.

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for being unchanging in Your Person and purposes for me.”

QUOTE: “The unchanging nature of God assures us His covenant promises to us are unchanging.”

Because of Him,
