Jesus’ Prayer for Himself – Part 2

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.  John 17:1-2

1. God’s Sovereignty in the Lord’s Petition

Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son

2. The reason for the Lord’s petition

that the Son may glorify you,

a. In displaying glad obedience to the will of His Father

b. In revealing the Father’s love in the giving of the Gospel

3. The necessity of the Lord’s petition

since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
