The Nature of the Obedience Creating Assurance – Part 3

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.  1st John 2:3

1.  Biblical Obedience is Relational: 1 John 2:3, John 14:21, John 15:10, John 15:14-15

2.  Biblical Obedience is Intentional: 1 John 2:3, Psalm 119:1-8, Psalm 119:30, Psalm 119:44-48, Psalm 119:59-60, Psalm 119:101-102,   Psalm 119:167-168, Psalm 119:178

3.  Biblical Obedience is Personal: 1 John 2:3

a.  Personal to the Lord:  His Commandments to obey: 2 Samuel 12:7-9, Psalm 138:2, Matt. 24:35

b.  Personal to His children:  Our obedience to be judged: 2 Cor. 5:10, Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Eight Characteristics in Intentional Obedience

1.  God-honoring intentional obedience is birthed in desire: Psalm 119:1-8

2.  God-honoring intentional obedience is established by personal resolve: Psalm 119:30

3.  God-honoring intentional obedience is progressively consistent: Psalm 119:44-45

4.  God-honoring intentional obedience is an exercise of the mind that moves the will: Psalm 119:59

5.  God-honoring intentional obedience is never delayed obedience: Psalm 119:60

6.  God-honoring intentional obedience is uncompromising in its practice: Psalm 119:101-102

7.  God-honoring intentional obedience is practiced aware of God’s omniscience: Psalm 119:167-168

8.  God-honoring intentional obedience is fully grace-dependent: Psalm 119:176
