Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Our God Never Changes

MALACHI 3:6 – For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. “

Aren’t we so glad for the truth in today’s scripture?  God changes not. He never experiences moodiness.  He never treats us based on “having a bad day” and is reactionary.  No, our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  And will never alter His dealing with us, which would be contrary to His never-changing character.  Oh, what comfort brings rest to our anxious and moody lives!

First, God is unchanging in His love for us.  He never alters or removes it from us because of bad behavior.  The Apostle Paul would affirm nothing, not even our moodiness, will separate us from God’s love – What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?  Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.  Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:31-39).

Another comforting truth found in the character of our unchanging God is His purpose for us is unchanging.  He predestined us to be conformed into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ, and it will be completed (Romans 8:28).  What God starts, God finishes and He will not change in this process. He will be true to Himself – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

What a gracious God who does not change in His character and dealing with us. Yes, and all the more generous because we do change!  We are not always zealous for Him, not always obedient to Him, and find ourselves easily giving in to temptation, and through them all, God is unchanging in His purpose for us!   Be encouraged. He changes not.

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for Your unchanging nature in Your love and sovereignty for me.”

QUOTE: “God is never moody and never deals with us irrationally, impulsively, or inconsistently. He is always the same.”
