Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

His Purposes are Good and Right

PSALM 57:2 – I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”

THEME OF THE DAY:  HIS PURPOSES ARE GOOD AND RIGHT.  Three truths ring out loudly from today’s scripture.  First, David, the Psalmist, is in trouble and afraid. And rightly so for he is hiding in a cave from King Saul who is seeking to kill him. The second truth is David prays – fervently from the heart – modeling for us where to go in times of doubt, fear, confusion, and danger.  Finally, David knows even in the midst of his troubles, God is fulfilling His purposes in him and the same applies to us in whatever we go through.

And that leads to a unique format in today’s nugget – the lyrics from a Sovereign Grace hymn titled – Whate’er my God ordains is right. Please ponder the words and listen to it on YouTube.

Whate’er my God ordains is right
His holy will abideth
I will be still whate’er He does And follow where He guideth
He is my God, though dark my road
He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all, And so to Him I leave it all

Whate’er my God ordains is right (yes, it is)

He never will deceive me
He leads me by the proper path I know He will not leave me
I take, content, what He has sent
His hand can turn my griefs away
And patiently I wait His day, And patiently I wait His day

Whate’er my God ordains is right
Though now this cup in drinking
May bitter seem to my faint heart I take it all, unshrinking
My God is true, each morn anew
Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart
And pain and sorrow shall depart, And pain and sorrow shall depart

Whate’er my God ordains is right
Here shall my stand be taken
Though sorrow, need, or death be mine Yet I am not forsaken
My Father’s care is round me there
He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all, And so to Him I leave it all

My Father’s care is round me there
He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all, And so to Him I leave it all

Within the hymn is God’s good sovereignty, the exercise of confident faith, the reality of our pain in this sin-cursed world, and the solid hope of God’s love, care, guidance, and that indeed, Whate’er my God ordains is right.

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You that You do all things well and I can trust You in all things.”

QUOTE: “God can make no mistakes and since He is good, all things coming to us are for good – always.”
