Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

God Moves In A Mysterious Way

ROMANS 11:33-34 – Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”

THEME OF THE DAY:  GOD MOVES IN A MYSTERIOUS WAY.  Today’s nugget is the title of a hymn penned by the 18th century man named William Cowper.  Let me encourage each of us to read about this influential man in church history.  He wrote powerful hymns and poems while suffering severe depression, not for a short period in his life, but throughout life. He was a very close friend to John Newton, the author of Amazing Grace, and Newton pastored Cowper all through his life.  Below is the entirety of the hymn God Moves in a Mysterious Way.  Ponder it, put it in your Bible, hang it on your refrigerator. It has been a great comfort for many years to God’s people who travel to heaven on a road paved with many tears, sorrows, and grief.

God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never-failing skill
He treasures up His bright designs
And works His sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

PRAYER: “Father, help me to trust Your ways when I don’t understand Your ways.”

QUOTE: “Don’t trust feelings or emotions in your walk with Jesus. Trust His Person and promises.”

In the affection of Christ Jesus,
