1. Death to self

a. Our desire for comfort: John 12:23; Phil. 3:10, Gen. 3:15; Isa. 53:3, 1 Peter 2:21; 1 Peter 4:1; 1 Peter 5:10; Matt. 16:24

b. Our desire for recognition: John 12:24; John 3:29-30

2. Death to the world: John 12:24-25; Galatians 6:14

a. The world no longer enslaves us by its power: Ephesians 2:1-6

b. The world no longer attracts us in its allurements and attainments: Philippians 3:4-8
