Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

The Disciples: The Danger of Making Assumptions

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.  John 9:1-4

1. Making assumptions often results in the use of external circumstances to evaluate spiritual conditions: John 9:1-2a, Job 16:1-2, Job 42:7

2. Making assumptions reveals quickness to lean on one’s own understanding and not the Lord’s: John 9:1-2b, Luke 24:13-27

3. Making assumptions ensures the corrective hand of the Lord will be applied: John 9:1-3, Luke 9:51-56, Hebrews 12:5-11
