Union with Christ: Death to Sin – Alive in God – Part 3

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin.  Romans 6:5-7

A. Building a Life of Conviction

1. Be convinced about the Person of Jesus Christ

– His authority over us: Luke 6:46, John 13:12-16, 2 Cor. 5:10

– His care, protection, and guidance for us: John 10:14-15, Ps. 100:3, John 1:14, John 1:16

2. Be convinced about the Divine Origin of the Bible: 2 Timothy 3:16-17

3. Be convinced of the priority of the Gospel: Romans 1:15-16, 1 Cor. 15:1-8

B. Our Union with Christ in His Death

1. What happened to us at Christ’s death?: Rom. 6:6a, Gal. 2:20

2. Who was crucified with Christ?: Rom. 6:6-8, Eph. 4:22-24, Col. 3:9-10, Rom 6:1-2

3. Why did this happen?: Rom. 6:6b

–  To render the instrument of sin powerless: Rom. 6:6b

– To break the bondage of internal and external sins: Rom. 6:6b, Luke 4:17-19

4. The logical conclusion of union with Christ in His death: Rom. 6:7
