For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.  Romans 8:5-6

A. Who Indwells the Believer?

1. His identity

a. The Holy Spirit – Rom. 8:9

2. His indwelling

a. Personal: Rom. 8:9-11

– Personal pronouns are given to the Holy Spirit: Acts 13:2

– Personal traits are given to the Holy Spirit: Acts 5:3, Eph. 4:30, Rom. 15:30,  1 Thess. 5:19

– Personal roles are given to the Holy Spirit: John 14:16-17, Rom. 8:26

b. Permanent: Rom. 8:9-11, Eph. 1:13-14

3. His ministries

He seals us (Eph. 1:13), imprinting on us the divine image and superscription;H e teaches (1 Cor. 2:13); He reveals (1 Cor. 2:10); He reproves (John 16:8); He strengthens (Eph. 3:16); He makes us fruitful (Gal. 5:22); He searches (1 Cor. 2:10); He strives (Gen. 6:3); He sanctifies (1 Cor. 6:11); He leads (Rom. 8:14; Ps. 143:10); He instructs (Neh. 9:29); He speaks (1 Tim. 4:1; Rev. 2:7); He demonstrates (or proves) (1 Cor. 2:4); He intercedes (Rom. 8:26); He quickens (Rom. 8:11); He gives utterance (Acts 2:4); He creates (Ps. 104:30); He comforts (John 14:26); He sheds abroad the love of God in our hearts (Rom. 5:5); He renews (Titus 3:5)

B. What does He give to the believer?

1. Life now: Rom. 8:10, John 3:5-8, 1 Peter 1:22-23
