The Apostle Paul is instructing the Thessalonian believers on “The Day of the Lord.” This day of all days is one of contrast. For the unbeliever, it is a day of terror and destruction. For the believer, it is a day of joy and deliverance. In light of this day, Paul is directing the Thessalonians believers on how to live for it will come suddenly like a thief in the night.
