Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” 22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.  Job 1:20-22

A. Job’s Action: He worshipped his sovereign Lord

1. Worship is not circumstance-driven: Job 1:13-20, Habakkuk 1:1-3, 3:16, 3:17-18, 2:4

2. Worship is not incompatible with great grief: Job 1:20, Genesis 37:29, Joshua 7:6, 2 Samuel 13:19

3. Worship is a means to properly interpret life: Job 1:21, Rom. 11:36

B. Job’s Attitude: He submitted to his sovereign Lord

1. All of life’s possessions are received not earned: Job 1:21a, Psalm 49:17, Ecc. 5:15, 1 Cor. 4:7

2. All of life’s circumstances are controlled by God: Job 1:21b

C. Job’s Affirmation: He maintained his testimony: Job 1:22

1. His blameless and upright conduct: Job 1:22a

2. His God-fearing in his words: Job 1:22b
