ISAIAH 40:28-31 – “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
THEME OF THE DAY: HE DOES NOT GROW WEARY. Today’s scripture is one of the most encouraging and strengthening portions we find in all our Bibles. Many Christians through history, perhaps even us recently, have found a safe harbor from life’s many storms in the Lord’s promises penned by the prophet Isaiah. We find the promise of power to the faint; might to those who are weak; renewed strength for the waiting Christian; the enablement from the Lord to run the race and not be weary; and to walk the talk of the Christian way and not grow faint. Yes, much encouragement we gain from these inspired words.
There is something else to encourage us in today’s scripture. It is not a promise, but a quality found in the character of our God – He does not faint or grow weary. This brings encouragement to us in two ways.
First, He does not run out of strength because He is our unchanging God who cannot empty Himself of strength. For us, this means He is always strong, always able to strengthen us, and never exhausts Himself. We may never hear from God, “I am too weary to help you” and that lifts up the heart of the weariest of His saints.
There is another application of God not growing weary. It is in His attitude and actions toward us. Aren’t we so glad He doesn’t grow weary in those times of our foolishness and folly in life? Aren’t we glad He never says, “I am weary of your disobedience, your failings, your many weaknesses, and My patience is all done with you?” The Psalmist would remind us of this great quality of God’s patience or not growing weary of us – “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:8-10).
What does such awareness of God not growing weary do besides encourage us? A lot, but here is a big one – we want to love Him more because this trait of His is an act of love. When we experience the love of God, there is the impulse in us to love Him back. In the Lord showing us His patience with us, we are experiencing another display of His love. The cross of the Lord Jesus is the greatest. Next is His patience with us.
Such a wonderful truth that our God never grows weary in dealing with us in the giving of needed strength to live for Him and His astounding patience with us. Rejoice in such encouraging truths!
PRAYER: Lord, I praise You for being a God who does not grow weary with me.
REFLECTION: God never grows weary and unable to give us strength weary of forgiving us our sins.
